Gianluigi Buffon Has More Kinds Words for Champions League Heroes Leicester City

Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon had yet more kind words for fairytale club Leicester City after their Champions League heroics against Atletico Madrid.

The Italian had previously said that he did not want for face the Foxes in the quarter-final round of the competition but now, the 39-year-old has revealed another reason behind his comments:
Gianluigi Buffon: "I meant it when I said I didn’t want to face Leicester in the QFs, it would’ve been really sad to end that fairy-tale."

A true gentleman of the game, Buffon, like most stars, was full of admiration for Leicester's unlikely Premier League title triumph under Claudio Ranieri last season.

This campaign, the Leicester live-wires failed to impress in England but in Europe, they were a similar force to last season.

Finishing top of their group, the Foxes then embarked on one of their biggest ever games against Spanish giants, Sevilla.

A 2-1 loss in Spain was then outdone by a brilliant 2-0 win at the King Power stadium, possibly the finest night in the club's history.

The tie against Atletico, one of Europe's best sides, was always going to be a bit too much, but a brave effort in both legs saw Craig Shakespeare's side lose just 2-1 on aggregate.

Diego Simeone's side were by far the superior and after Saul Niguez's away goal, the tie was effectively over.

However, a switch to 3-4-3 at half time put the visiting side on the ropes with Jamie Vardy scoring an equaliser.

It was a valiant effort, yet another Leicester achievement which received universal acclaim, and I am sure that Buffon's words reflect the thoughts of many.

The fairytale had to be crushed but in the end, no one wanted to do it.
