Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has said that he did not try to injure Lionel Messi and added that he felt the red card was excessive.
The central defender was sent off in the 77th minute for a very late challenge on Messi, as he thundered into a two-footed tackle on the Argentinean near the halfway line.
Ramos, however, said that he had no intentions of hurting the Barcelona man and thought the punishment was too much
Sergio Ramos: "The red card was excessive. I wasn't trying to hurt anyone. The challenge was late but there was no contact."— FC Barcelona Fl (@FCBarcelonaFl) April 23, 2017
Speaking to reporters after the match, as per Fourfourtwo, he said, "The red card was excessive. I was not going to harm anyone. In my opinion, that was a yellow card, not a red. I was too late, but there was no contact. I never have the intention to hurt anyone."
